Spending Wisely To Ensure School Funding Fairness, Reduce Local Property Taxes

As a parent of three kids in the Mahtomedi Public Schools, Matt sees firsthand the need to bring fairness to our public school finances.  “Funding should be based on the needs of the student, not on the zip code of the student.”  Dean said.

Under funding of districts causes local school districts to turn to the taxpayers in the form of levies and increases in property taxes.  A fair way to fund schools will bring down local property taxes.

Educating children in 2008 requires a 21st Century approach.  However, change comes slowly to education and we continue to struggle with innovative approaches to bring reform and accountability to our classrooms.  Rep. Dean supports the Governor’s Q-Comp reforms that give extra money to schools willing to bring teachers together to collaborate and measure performance.
