Rep. Dean seeks a balanced approach to providing affordable energy while protecting the environment.

Rep. Dean supported conservation measures aimed at bringing down the amount of energy consumed by public buildings.  As an architect and member of the Capital Investment Committee, Dean coauthored legislation that will make public and private buildings more energy efficient.

Dean also supported efforts to remove the ban on improving and expanding the state’s ability to produce low cost clean nuclear energy.  “If we think in terms of “yes…if” rather than “no…because” we can meet our energy needs while protecting the environment.”  Dean said.

Dean also protected rate-payers by opposing mandates that will drive up the cost of their energy bills.  Xcell energy predics a 25% to 50% cost of energy increase depending on how you get your energy.  While the goals of the mandate are excellent (increasing wind energy production) they have the unintended consequence of driving up natural gas prices.  This puts an undue burden on folks who can barely afford their bills as it is.  “We need a balanced approach that includes rate payers at the table.”  Dean said.
